Can dogs eat lobster?

Only with precautions. Lobster meat is safe when plain and cooked, but it is very high in sodium and cholesterol, and the shell is a serious blockage risk. Butter-drenched lobster — the way humans eat it — turns a treat into a pancreatitis trigger. A pinch of plain meat rarely; shells and butter always off the menu.

Watch for vomiting, diarrhea, intestinal blockage from shell, pancreatitis from butter. Symptoms may appear within hours; when in doubt, call your vet.

Assess how much was eaten and whether seeds, pits, shells or seasoning were included. Small plain amounts usually need monitoring only; large or seasoned amounts warrant a call to your vet.
