Can dogs eat squid?

Only with precautions. Cooked, plain squid is safe in small amounts, but it is rubbery and hard to digest, so dogs often vomit it back up. Fried calamari adds dangerous fat, and seasoned preparations bring garlic and chili. If sharing, a small piece of steamed squid is the limit — most dogs do better skipping it entirely.

Watch for vomiting, diarrhea, choking risk from rubbery texture. Symptoms may appear within hours; when in doubt, call your vet.

Assess how much was eaten and whether seeds, pits, shells or seasoning were included. Small plain amounts usually need monitoring only; large or seasoned amounts warrant a call to your vet.
