Can dogs eat pork?

Only with precautions. Plain, thoroughly cooked, unseasoned pork is safe for dogs — it is a common commercial diet ingredient. The hazards are the forms humans actually eat: cured ham and bacon, fatty roasts, and especially raw or undercooked pork carrying trichinella parasites. If sharing, it must be cooked-through, fat-trimmed and spice-free.

Watch for vomiting, diarrhea; trichinosis from raw: muscle pain, fever, lethargy. Symptoms may appear within hours; when in doubt, call your vet.

Assess how much was eaten and whether seeds, pits, shells or seasoning were included. Small plain amounts usually need monitoring only; large or seasoned amounts warrant a call to your vet.
